the hardest year

the hardest year

social media is a place for the superficial, the successful and the best of life. reality is never shared, hard time or failures are rarely posted; 2018 was our hardest year.

“it’s like starting all over again..think of it as a new business” that’s what my accountant said. you hear it but do you listen!

it took us so long to get into 26 Catherine st, the proposal, the planning, the problems, we didn’t think about being in and running it, not really. so many teething problems, no gas, leaks, new staff to train. so much anticipation we had to hit the ground running. we didn’t i feel.

and we started from behind. starting from behind isn’t good but that’s how we started. over budget, under funded, this left a sizeable shortfall to catch up all year. and we were fighting to catch up all year. our suppliers are amazing but we rarely paid on time, always behind, always tight

along two break-ins, more teething problems, cost-cutting where-ever we could, many seven day weeks, many sleepless nights, failing at opening for evenings. most of the year i felt we were standing still. if you’re worried about the bank balance and other stresses you’re not thinking about moving the business in the right direction. if you standing still in business; you’re going backwards.

for the last quarter of 2018, i felt we were going in the right direction. small steps

but we are finally going in the right direction i feel,

we must do better to keep canteen the canteen you love
